Uptown Deli and Brew

    •

As I’ve said before, it’s been tough to find bread service in a pandemic! Mostly because I’m not going out as much, if at all. I managed to have an in-person lunch with a client and a co-worker and bread was a must!  I don’t frequent uptown Westerville, so I was excited to go.  Uptown Westerville has come a long way, and there are a few restaurants there that I haven’t been to. Uptown Deli and Brew was one of those! They have a small “storefront” on Westerville Rd, but a full brewery attached to the back of it, and plenty of space to dine safely on the inside.  The brewery attached to them is called Temperance Row Brewing and their menu looked great, so I’ll have to come back another time to try that.

Anyway, we ordered the Village Bruscetta and the Pimento Cheese dip to start…

    Presentation – 1 Crumbs

Let’s start with the village bruschetta!  The presentation was scrumptious! As soon as I saw the thick bread, red pepper spread and balsamic glaze, I wanted a bite.

  •                             Bruschetta
  • The Pimento Cheese Dip, I would give an extra crumb for presentation if I could.  The cheese came out sizzling in the skillet. Nice, warm bubbly cheese with the cutest little crostini’s! Couldn’t ask for more.
  • Pimento Cheese Dip with Crostini

    Bread Variety – 1 Crumb

  • I mean it would be nice is bruschetta came with more than one type of bread, but the dish is what it is, and the same goes for cheese dip.  No one would expect cheese dip to come with multiple kinds of bread.  Not much to say here…

Quality of Bread – 1 Crumb

The Bruschetta was thick, moist and flavorful.  Sometimes the toppings carry a bruschetta dish, but the bread could have stood on its own. It was a great rye crostini with red pepper spread, feta cheese and balsamic glaze…what more could you ask for?  Fluffy, juicy and tasty for sure! The Pimento cheese crostini were also good; Thin, just a tiny bit of crunch, but nothing dry and over powering at all. The cheese complemented the bread very well.

Quality and Quantity of Spread – .5 Crumbs

Other than the cheese spread, there was nothing to go on for this category.  Bruschetta comes with topping that I wouldn’t consider a “spread”.  The Pimento Cheese Dip was very good though! It comes out bubbling and sizzling and there is plenty of it! Enough for maybe 2/3 more crostini’s…well that all depends on how you dip I guess.

Cost – 1 Crumb

Uptown Westerville is hit or miss as far as deals come. I wouldn’t say they’re the most expensive place in the Columbus area to eat, but they’re certainly not the cheapest either.  You get what you pay for in general, and this place is just a normal run of the mill, and that’s what I would expect their food prices to be like.  The Brushetta was $9.50 and the Pimento Cheese Dip was $9.  I don’t think that is outlandish at all. Maybe a few dollars more than what I would expect from just looking at the place, but it’s good quality so paying a tiny bit more is absolutely worth it!

Overall – 4.5 Crumbs out of 5

Maybe I’ve gone soft since bread service is so hard to come by,  or maybe Uptown Deli and Brew truly deserves 4.5 crumbs.  Either way, if you’re in downtown Westerville, the bruschetta alone is worth stopping in.  Not to mention their sandwiches are fresh and unbelievably good! They know a crostini well in both the Pimento Cheese Dip dish, and their rye crostini you can find in their bruschetta.  The world of bread is still out there for the eating, pandemic or not!
