Next up, we have Marcella’s.  A Cameron Mitchell’s Italian restaurant that’s been here for a while.  This place isn’t as nice as some other Cameron Mitchell restaurants, but it’s better than mediocre. Their bread service is complimentary, which obviously I’m happy with. 🙂

This bread service is the epitome of plain! 7 pieces of Italian bread alongside plain olive oil.  When I come here I usually put a little pepper in the oil to give it somewhat of a flavor.  I’ve been here with a friend, and she asks the server for balsamic vinegar to mix in with the oil.  That tastes very good, but without any flavor at all, its a bit of a disappointment. I do however recommend saving some bread, or asking for more when your entree comes.  They have great pasta dishes here and the bread is a great sponge for all of those flavorful sauces.

• Presentation – 0 Crumbs

It’s simple, there is no presentation.  They pull out a basket, slap a piece of paper inside and lay sliced bread on it…Ive been here previously and the bread wasn’t even cut all the way through.  Not complaining, I still get my bread but its just nothing to look at really.

• Bread Variety – .5 Crumbs

There is just one style of bread here and that’s Italian.  The bread itself is moist and airy.  The crust is sometimes too soft yet tough.  Like it takes a bit of extra effort to pull it apart.  

• Quality of Bread – .5 Crumbs

The Italian bread wasn’t the worst I’ve had, so it warrants a half crumb.  It certainly lacked any kind of flavor at all.

• Quantity & Quality of Butter – 0 Crumbs

First off, this should be changed to “Quality & Quantity of butter or sauce”.  As this is the second post, adjustments will be made. Ha! Ok, back to the flavorless oil they gave me.  I mean it’s just simple olive oil in a small plate. Gross! This is where the bread service failed for them.  The actual bread wasn’t bad, but they had no spices in the oil.  They didn’t even have butter, like at all! so, no crumbs on this one.

• Cost – 1 Crumb 

This is an easy one, it was free and the bread was decent.  Lets get one thing straight though, a free service doesn’t always mean a full crumb.  If the service is bad enough, it won’t matter if its free or not.  Anyway, this was decent bread so a full crumb for them.

Overall Crumb Score – 2/5

Bread service is not what Marcella’s is known for by any means.  It’s a plain but free course that should be appreciated, as all bread services should.
