Alqueria Farmhouse Kitchen

First review, here we go! 🙂 Yes, I went to lunch by myself, and yes I ate the entire bread service before eating my entire meal. This is a judge free zone here right? I will refrain from reviewing the restaurant, service and my entrée but I will say that I will be back to Alqueria to try other items on their lunch menu.

Back to the bread! Alqueria provided 4 pieces of bread with their service, and a generous serving of what they called “seasonal butter”. Their menu lists their bread service as “bread & butter” and the description says, “Sixteen Bricks bread served with seasonal flavored butter”.  This leaves me with a bunch of questions; what type of bread, what’s in the seasonal butter and what the heck is Sixteen Brick Bread?

Sixteen Brick Bread  is a very delicious artisan bakery out of Cincinnati Ohio.  They offer a variety of bread that’s baked in house.  Alqueria served me two types of their bread; Eleven Grain and Honey Whole Wheat.  Both were delicious! They were moist, soft and tasty.  The Honey Whole Wheat was airy and fresh, not a single crumb fell from it.  Although both the honey wheat and the eleven grain were similar in texture, the Eleven Grain had a little more structure to it.  It was hearty and had grains on the crust as an added bonus.

The butter….mmm the butter! This is a huge surprise to me, as the description on their menu just says “seasonal butter”.  First, there were like 4 scoops of butter (way more than anyone needs) , which is fine by me! The best way to describe their butter is cinnamon sugar butter with raisins in it.  The butter melting on the warm bread tasted like cinnamon toast crunch cereal, only more flavorful.

Let’s bust out a crumb score guys!

  • Presentation – .5 Crumbs

Four pieces of bread stacked on each other and slightly tapered.  Cup of butter next to it served with a spoon.  I thought the spoon wasn’t necessary.  Don’t people typically use a knife for butter?  Anyway, I wasn’t overly impressed with the presentation so I’m only giving out half a crumb here.

  • Bread Variety – 1 Crumb

We’ve already discussed how amazing Sixteen Brick Bread is, and giving me two types of bread when it only comes with 4 pieces to begin with was perfect.  Full crumb awarded here.

  • Quality of Bread – 1 Crumb

Again, with the Sixteen Brick Bread.  When the name of the bakery is in the menu and not much else, you expect good quality bread, and Alqueria delivered.  Full crumb here as well.

  • Quantity & Quality of Butter – .5 Crumbs

Quantity of butter was huge, absolutely no complaints there.  If you have to ask for extra butter here, you probably have clogged arteries and they should refuse to serve you more.  The butter was great, it really was but it was also missing something.  I’m not sure what…more of a salty taste.  The butter tasted more like a dessert than an starter. For this reason I’m giving them half a crumb.

  • Cost – 1 Crumb

Their bread service was $8.  This means I paid $2 per slice of bread, or $1.50 per slice and $2 for the butter,  Either way it’s a bit pricey for what you get, but not over the top.  If I could give a 3/4 crumb I would, but I can’t, so they get a full crumb.

Overall Crumb Score – 4/5

I would certainly recommend coming to Alqueria Farmhouse Kitchen, and if you find your way in GET THE BREAD SERVICE!
